Raised in Memramcook, New Brunswick, Canada, Denise Cormier Mahoney earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1983 at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, Nova Scotia and went on to obtain a Masters in Art Education at Texas Tech University in 2011.

Denise is a mid-career painter and printmaker who has exhibited consistently for the past twenty-two years both nationally and internationally. She is a member of two prominent Women’s organizations, The Women Painters of WA in Seattle, Washington and the National Association of Women Artists in NYC, New York. She now lives and works in two studios, one in St Petersburg, Florida and the other in Memramcook, New Brunswick, Canada.

Denise’s recent contemporary painting series features illustrative and surfaced designed compositions infused with the memories and stories told from the point of view of a child free to explore.

Her most prominent influences are medieval art compositions, Art Nouveau’s illustrations and Post impressionist’s focus on personal meaning. Artists she loves are Gustav Klimt, Dorothea Tanning, Hollis Siegler and Alfredo Arreguin.

Denise received a creation grant in 2021 from the New Brunswick Art Board and was accepted into the Kingsbrae International Artists Residency program in New Brunswick in 2021. She has permanent public installations in Bremerton and Tacoma, Washington as well as in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Her collaborative relationships with art organizations include the Warehouse Arts District in St. Petersburg, Florida, Artslink New Brunswick, L’Association des Artists Acadiens Professionels du Nouveau Brunswick & CARFAC (Canadian Artists Representation).
